7 Great Alternatives Of Netflix To Try

Although Netflix is great, it’s not the end-all and be-all of streaming services. Although Netflix is one of the most well-known and biggest video streaming services in the world, it isn’t the only one. Your smartphone, tablet, or smart TV can keep you entertained every night with Netflix alternatives. Netflix is among your more expensive options, with plans starting at $19.99 per month. Some of these alternative services are even free to use, although they do contain advertisements.

Check out these Netflix alternatives.

The Best Netflix alternatives:

  1. Amazon Prime Video
  2. HBO Max
  3. Hulu
  4. Crackle
  5. Paramount Plus
  6. Disney Plus
  7. Acorn TV

Amazon Prime Video

There are many Netflix alternatives, but Amazon Prime Video is one of the best. Besides popular movies and TV shows, it also offers excellent original programming. Some of the shows that stand out are The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Man in the High Castle, The Boys, and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Members of Amazon Prime have access to Prime Video as part of their subscription. With Amazon Prime, you get free shipping on a bunch of products sold by the retailer, Amazon’s Prime Reading service, and much more. As a standalone service, Amazon Prime Video costs $8.99 per month.

HBO Max

There is a lot to enjoy with Warner Bros Discovery’s video streaming service. Whether you’re watching a recent HBO hit like The White Lotus or an older series like The Sopranos, you’ll always find something interesting to watch. There are also several great HBO shows worth mentioning, such as Game of Thrones and The Leftovers.

HBO Max also includes tons of additional content not found on HBO. Among these are sitcoms like Friends, The Big Bang Theory, South Park, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and dramas like Doctor Who and Pretty Little Liars, as well as HBO Max originals like Raised by Wolves, The Flight Attendant, and Irma Vep.

Furthermore, it has classic and current Warner Bros. movies that are not available on HBO. Additionally, you can watch shows from Discovery’s other cable TV channels, including TNT, TBS, TruTV, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, and CNN. Finally, Criterion movies and Crunchyroll and Studio Ghibli anime are available.

There is a monthly fee of $14.99 for HBO Max. There’s also a new, cheaper plan, at $9.99 a month, but with ads every four minutes. Additionally, you will not be able to access the Warner Bros. theatrical movie schedule for 2021. Although it isn’t the cheapest service on this list, all the great content it offers makes it worth it. If a free streaming app is what you’re searching then Cinema HD is the best in the category.

Hulu

Hit TV series such as Seinfeld, ER, and Futurama can be found on Hulu. A few original shows are also available, including The Handmaid’s Tale and Only Murders in the Building. Hulu is unique in that it releases new episodes of some of the most popular shows around a day or two after they air on TV. On Netflix, however, you usually have to wait longer to start watching an entire season of a certain show.

You can subscribe to Hulu for just $6.99 per month, but ads are included. In addition to the ad-free plan, you can also get it for $12.99 a month. Additionally, Hulu offers add-ons including Cinemax, Showtime, Starz, and HBO, and a Live TV plan starting at $69.99 per month with ABC, FOX, CNN, etc. Only in the US and Japan does Hulu offer an alternative to Netflix. The service isn’t available in other countries like Netflix.

Crackle

Among the best Netflix alternatives, Crackle is the most cost-effective. Aside from cult classics and critically acclaimed Hollywood films, the site also offers a wide range of popular TV shows and movies. About 150 feature-length movies and 75 shows are available on the platform.

One of the biggest drawbacks of the service is that it is ad-supported. Before your movie or show begins, you’ll have to sit through a 30-second commercial, followed by three more ads for shows, and nine for movies over an hour and a half.

Paramount Plus

Previously known as CBS All Access, Paramount Plus combines a variety of content from ViacomCBS’s parent company. Paramount Pictures offers a wide variety of classic and current movies, as well as TV shows from CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, and BET.

The service also offers live national and local news along with live sports, such as NFL football, soccer, and NCAA basketball. For $4.99 a month in the US, you get the CBS stream, but you’ll also see ads. Getting rid of ads and getting the CBS live stream costs $9.99 a month.

Also, I am mentioning BeeTV, it is another free platform where you can bing-watch your favorites.

Disney Plus

If you haven’t heard of Disney Plus, you’re in for a surprise. A number of countries around the world launched the service in mid-November. With tons of family-friendly movies and TV shows to watch, it is a great Netflix alternative if you have kids. Almost all Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel Cinematic Universe movies are available on Disney Plus as well.

As of now, Disney Plus costs $7.99 a month, or $79.99 for an annual subscription. With tons of family-friendly movies and TV shows to watch, it is a great Netflix alternative if you have children.

Acorn TV

The Acorn TV channel offers classic and current shows from Britain, Ireland, Australia, and other countries. There are plenty of popular TV shows to choose from, including Inspector George Gently, Doc Martin, Midsomer Murders, and many more. Despite their unfamiliarity, these shows are well worth watching. In addition to a few movies, there isn’t a large selection available.

Only the US and Canada can get Acorn TV, which isn’t as widely available as Netflix. There is no advertising included and the cost is $5.99 per month in the states. As opposed to Netflix, you cannot download content to watch offline. This is the biggest drawback of the service.
